The maker movement is sweeping the country. This year, our Fellows and Alumni coached a\u00a0whopping\u00a060\u00a0TEAMS\u00a0of student inventors<\/strong>\u00a0to compete at\u00a0Young Innovate<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u2013 a national annual maker competition for\u00a0secondary schools. Students designed embedded system solutions to solve real-life problems based\u00a0on maker\u00a0open source platforms such as Arduino, 3D Printing\u00a0and\u00a0Python.<\/p>\n

We are so proud of all our students\u00a0for coming up with these\u00a0wonderful ideas and inventions themselves, and are thrilled that\u00a04\u00a0teams won<\/strong>\u00a0awards for their inventions\u00a0\u2013\u00a01\u00a0team even\u00a0bagged the top spot in Johor as\u00a0State Champions!<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve rounded up\u00a0a little tour for you to meet some of our makers and their inventions. Which are your favourites?<\/p>\n

1. ROCT\u00a0N\u2019 ROLL Remote-controlled Lifting Cart\"Young<\/strong>A portable lifting platform for those hard-to-reach places! Handy at\u00a0home or at work.

\u00a0<\/strong>2. Pick-Up-Dude\"Young<\/strong>Keep your plantation tidy with this moving vacuum cleaner that sucks up fallen palm fruits.

3. Virtual Reality Tourism Goggles\"Young<\/strong>These goggles will takes you places! Just key in the GPS location of where you want to go.

4. iFinder\"Young<\/strong>This mini tracking device can\u00a0help locate the exact longtitude and latitude of young children (in case they get lost), patients with dementia (in case they forget how to go home), or even in tourism to track the location of buses, for instance.

5. Atlantis Auto\u00a0Reminder to Drink Water\"Young<\/strong>The team built\u00a0the pump from scratch by watching\u00a0YouTube videos!

6.\u00a0Anti-pododermatitis Light Distribution (APLD) System\"Young<\/strong>This agricultural project prevents the overcrowding of chickens on farms!

7. Autoglow Magnetic Roller\"Young<\/strong>Picks up anything magnetic \u2013 and has a night sensor so it automatically lights up when it\u2019s dark!

8. Intelligent Steering Wheel\u00a0[7th place, Penang]\"Young<\/strong>This\u00a0system detects whether the driver has both\u00a0hands on the steering wheel. If only\u00a0one hand is on the wheel, the\u00a0driver will not be able to accelerate\u00a0and the emergency lights will switch\u00a0on to warn other people on the road\u00a0that the driver is not paying attention!
