Last week, we curated\u00a0@twt_malaysia\u2019<\/a>s\u00a0Twitter account! \u00a0Here are some\u00a0#TanyaTFM<\/a>\u00a0highlights \u2013 in case you missed it.<\/p>\n

The Twittersphere sent us\u00a0some really great questions about the Fellowship. We thought this would be a good place to start:<\/p>\n

Thanks for bringing us back to basics, @nooratiqahabdu1! TFM is short for\u00a0Teach For Malaysia<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 we\u2019re an independent, not-for-profit organisation on a mission to empower our nation through education.<\/p>\n

Why we exist:\u00a0Education inequity<\/a><\/strong>
\nDid you know \u2013 1 in 5 Malaysian students don\u2019t complete secondary school? (Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013 \u2013 2025) Thousands of Malaysian children don\u2019t have the chance to realise their potential because of many different factors, like how much their parents earn or where they live.\u00a0We believe that a child\u2019s education and future should not be determined by his or her circumstances in life.\"#TanyaTFM<\/a><\/p>\n

What we do:\u00a0Program Teach For Malaysia<\/a><\/strong>
\nWe\u2019re mobilising a movement of leaders to be part of the solution!\u00a0The first step?\u00a0The Teach For Malaysia Fellowship\u00a0\u2013\u00a0a\u00a0two-year leadership development programme\u00a0that empowers\u00a0you to teach as a full-time, fully-paid\u00a0cikgu<\/em>\u00a0at a high-need\u00a0school in Malaysia. In other words, all of the below!<\/p>\n

\"Twitter<\/a>(That\u2019s right, we are\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0a volunteer programme!)<\/p>\n

One of our 2017 Fellows, Fatah hopped on board to answer some questions about what it\u2019s\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0like to be back in the classroom. Fatah graduated with a Bachelor of English in Communication from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin. He is currently teaching at a high-need school in Johor.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re sure many\u00a0cikgus<\/em>\u00a0out there can relate to Fatah\u2019s responses:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fun!\u00a0Macam artis<\/em>\u00a0hahah because for a moment, everyone looks at you anticipating your performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though the lesson lasts for 30 to 60 minutes, it is within that period you shape the pupils in your class.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Fatah\"<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0interviewed many teachers at my school and they said, no matter what, pressure will find its way to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing resilient is one the greatest skills I\u2019ve learned so far throughout the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTeaching is fun.\u00a0 Main struggle is all the paperwork.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTips: 1. If you were\u00a0a student, what would you want from a teacher\u00a02. Become a magician \u2013 surprise the students\u00a03. Ensure it is student-centered\u201d<\/p>\n

On top of teaching, Teach For Malaysia Fellows also impact their students beyond the classroom. Many Fellows run or get involved in different initiatives to open up new opportunities for their students, like this\u00a0cikgu<\/em>\u00a0in Sarawak:<\/p>\n
