I\u2019m so grateful for the path carved for me by God in this battle. I\u2019m thankful that I\u2019m able to give my best despite my shortcomings, because every step in this fight is laying a brick in the foundation of our country.<\/em><\/p>\n

Every student deserves the space and support to learn from their mistakes and shortcomings. I was able to grow because I had teachers who taught me to rise after every fall, to never stop trying. Together, let\u2019s work towards empowering our nation\u2019s youth, because they are the future of Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Saya bersyukur dengan jalan yang dibentang tuhan untuk perjuangan ini. Saya percaya, saya mampu memberi sebaiknya walaupun diri penuh dengan kelemahan kerana kekuatan akan terbina dari setiap langkah untuk memberi demi kebaikan.<\/p>\n

Pelajar saya berhak untuk belajar dari kesilapan dan kelemahan mereka seperti mana guru saya dahulu membangkitkan saya dari kegagalan untuk membina keyakinan. Mari kita bersama membina keyakinan anak-anak masa depan negara dengan kekuatan kita yang tersendiri, yang hadir dari perjuangan pendidikan sebelum ini.<\/p>\n

Satu, Seribu, Demi Jutaan Impian<\/strong><\/p>\n

Satu masa,
\nHati pernah hiba,
\nRasa tiada makna,
\nMana perginya jiwa.<\/p>\n

Ingin memberi,
\nSaku tiada berisi,
\nKudrat seakan lesi,
\nHarap hanya pada Illahi.<\/p>\n

Jalan pasti ada,
\nRezeki demi negara,
\nMendidik anak bangsa,
\nDemi negara yang sejahtera.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

One and a thousand for a million dreams<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Once,
\nMy heart was curiously empty.
\nLife had little meaning
\nnor direction forward.<\/p>\n

I wanted to give,
\nbut I hadn\u2019t the means.
\nFeeling drained, I persisted,
\nsustained by my faith in God.<\/p>\n

There must be a path
\nto give back to my country,
\nto foster our common future
\nso we prosper together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Jejak perjuangan,
\nTerukir senyuman,
\nTerbit juraian tangisan,
\nMadu hempedu tertelan.<\/p>\n

Aneh jalan ini,
\nSuka hati ditangisi,
\nNgilu dukanya dirai,
\nAgar ilmu terus diwarisi.<\/p>\n

Tiada kata,
\nTerbit sejuta rasa,
\nBila mereka bahagia,
\nTeroka ilmu sepenuhnya.<\/p>\n

Setahun berlalu,
\nLaluan penuh liku,
\nMenguatkan diri ku,
\nDemi anak negaraKu.<\/p>\n

Ku tidak berseorangan,
\nAda keluarga dan kawan,
\nAda cikgu dan cendekiawan,
\nAda yayasan penyatu dermawan.<\/p>\n

Tampak satu,
\nBelakangnya seribu.
\nDemi jutaan masa depan,
\nBuat semua pengejar impian.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

My journey has seen
\nso many smiles, and so many tears.
\nThe honey and the bile
\nI\u2019ve both tasted in equal measure.<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a rollercoaster ride.
\nEvery joy follows with tears, yet
\nevery pain too follows with cheer.
\nThe one constant is the joy of teaching.<\/p>\n

There are no words
\nto describe the pride
\nAs I watch my students
\nFall in love with learning.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a year since
\nI began upon this winding road.
\nAs my students have grown, I\u2019ve found
\nI\u2019ve grown so much as well.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not alone in this. I cherish the support
\nof my family and friends,
\nof fellow teachers and educators,
\nof the movement for change.<\/p>\n

Every step I take on this path
\nbrims with the hopes of a thousand.
\nI dream of a million possibilities, so
\nI teach for a million possibilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Irsyad is a 2017 Teach For Malaysia Fellow, who currently teaches Sejarah at a high-need school in Johor Bahru. He graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).<\/i><\/p>\n
